<title>Big Congratulations to Speaker Pelosi and Her Landslide Primary Win</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p>Well the returns are in and once again, San Francisco Democrats re-affirmed their support of Our Speaker with 88% of the vote. I guess all the negative naysayers and nasty nabobs were a bit mistaken about the level of "discontent" with Our Speaker.</p>

<p>Also, Speaker Pelosi deserves high praise for her efforts to unify the party, pre and post election. Speaker Pelosi realizes we <A HREF="http://sfist.com/2008/06/04/pelosi_gets_jum.php">have a unique moment in history</A> to right the many wrongs of the last 8 years (6 of which were one-party authoritarian rule), and move America forward.</p>

<p>Remember, you can always keep in touch with Our Speaker via her <A HREF="http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=576624417">Facebook page</A>, her <A HREF="http://www.youtube.com/nancypelosi">account on YouTube.com</A>, and <A HREF="http://www.speaker.gov/">her official site</A>.</p>

<p>Hurray for Speaker Pelosi, and hurray for Sen. Barack Obama!</p>]]></description>

            <title>Pelosi Bashers Need A Civics Lesson....</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p>Speaker Pelosi must be doing something right if the rabid, right-wing extremists can attack her, right alongside the extreme left as well. It means she's listening to reason, and not to extreme rhetoric.</p>

<p>Now it seems that <A HREF="http://cbs5.com/local/shirley.golub.ad.2.718669.html">one of the local extremists who attacks Our Speaker</A> has raised some money for a small cable buy. Interestingly enough, in the report, the attacker says a "group" named Act Blue is "funding" the ad. </p>

<p>That of course is not quite accurate - Act Blue is merely a conduit, or bundler, of contributions from all over the country which provides space online for various causes. But such mis-representations and errors seem to be at the heart of the extreme left's attacks on Our Speaker.</p>

<p>You see, according to the extreme screamers, Rep. Pelosi is not in fact, Speaker of the House of Representatives, but instead a unitary dictator, capable of issuing decrees all by herself, with no input from say, the President, the Senate, or the judiciary. That's how they start in on their deceptive attacks on Our Speaker.</p>

<p>Where they show no knowledge of basic high school civics, however, is the concept of "impeachment." While I have found the President and Vice President's behavior in office these past years to be atrocious, the fact is any attempt to "impeach" the President, either in 2007 or today, is simply not going to happen. Not because "Dictator" Pelosi (as the left would have you believe) won't do it - the politics and the numbers don't add up.</p>

<p>Getting even a majority in the House to support articles of impeachment is no sure thing, but let's assume that happened and the Speaker burned through what little political capital Democrats had after the 2006 elections to persue it, at the expense of any other legislation America might need. There is absolutely no evidnce the US Senate, as presently constituted, would <I>EVER</I> approve and vote to convict the President on said impeachment articles.</p>

<p>Moreover, the extremists who demand impeachment proceedings <I>now</I> (in some bizarre fantasy that somehow President Bush and possibly Vice President Cheney would be removed from office within days, or weeks of said proceedings), are simply deluding themselves. Does anyone honestly think the President (and maybe the Vice President) would simply roll over and play dead for a handful of activists? No, they wouldn't. </p>

<p>Oh and guess what? If we did somehow by some miracle get enough REPUBLICANS to vote for impeachment of the President and Vice President within days, guess who would become President of the United States? That's right - Speaker Pelosi. (Kids, read your high school textbooks, willya?)</p>

<p>But, even more basic - if we were to somehow lose Our Speaker (perhaps when Hell freezes over, pigs fly, and you can find parking in San Francisco on a regular basis), and "impeachment proceedings" were to begin in 2009 - well it'd be too late. See, there's this thing called a <I>presidential election</I> where we have the chance to vote <I>for</I> someone who will try and clean up the messes of 8 years of Bush/Cheney. Maybe the extreme left wants to impeach a potential President Obama? Hmm. What's up with that?</p>

<p>Frankly, though, I am getting sick and tired of people who put forth straw-man arguments and half-assed civics in their attacks on the Speaker. It is one thing to have an informed, civil discussion about the priorities of Our Speaker, the House of Representatives, and what the next president has to do to restore our country. We need that and surely the smart folks in Allegedly Smart and Liberal San Francisco are capable of that, right?</p>

<p>It is quite another to hurl insults, lies, and illogical tantrums that do nothing but help the extreme right maintain their hold on power. </p>]]></description>

<title>Enough is Enough With the San Francisco/Pelosi Bashing from Democrats!</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p>We expect the far-right extremists, folks like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and the gang at FOX News to bash on San Francisco. It's almost required if you want to be part of the parasitical right these days.</p><div>It's a little more disturbing, however, when one of our Democrats running for president, Sen. Hillary Clinton, feels a need to use the <a href="http://www.oliverwillis.com/index.php/2008/04/13/a-question-for-sen-clinton-on-san-francisco/">our city, "San Francisco," as a slur</a>, a code word, just like right wing Republican John McCain and his friends in the Rove White House do. It's an insult to the Democrats in San Francisco who have supported Mrs. Clinton with their money and time, and if she is going to be the nominee she'll need San Francisco's help. Will she decline it? Will she return the millions of dollars she's raised from wealthy San Franciscans? </div><div><br /></div><div>It's especially disturbing as this comes just a few weeks after some of Sen. Clinton's wealthy donors tried <a href="http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/27/pelosi-letter-writers-are-mega-million-donors/">to threaten the Speaker of the House of Representatives</a> because Speaker Pelosi simply called for some rational behavior by all candidates for President as we select our nominee. That's just wrong!</div><div><br /></div><div>It's also a bit much to see the hometown paper of Our Speaker join in the bashing of San Francisco, quoting the likes of disgraced political consultant Peter Ragone, who gleefully joined in the attacks on Our City. (even though it was the taxpayers who paid his overpaid salary when he worked for Mayor Newsom). Fortunately, a t<a href="http://www.beyondchron.org/news/index.php?itemid=5570">houghtful and intelligent response to this kind of nonsense</a> was published today.</div><div><br /></div><div>Let's make it perfectly clear: We're citizens of the United States, residents of the great City of San Francisco, and we proudly support the current Speaker of the House of Representatives. We're not going to back down in the face of looney tunes insults from the right - and we certainly don't back down when they come from Democrats. If you really don't like us, don't take our money and demand our votes. Deal with it. </div><div><br /></div><div>&lt;B>UPDATE:&lt;/B> &lt;A HREF="http://www.americablog.com/2008/04/im-bitter-about-hillary-constantly.html">America Blog does a roundup of the Anti San Francisco comments of Hillary Clinton&lt;/A>. I really don't understand why she feels the need to attack our city with caricatures and distortions. Oh well, I guess her campaign's doing so well in winning the nomination and the presidency, she no longer needs our money or votes? If she really hates us so much, perhaps she should give all that money she raised here back to us.</div><p></p>]]></description>

<title>Let&apos;s Keep Our Fingers Crossed for Jackie Speier Today, April 8th!</title>
<description><![CDATA[There's a myth out there, pushed by people who didn't do well in civics class, that Speaker Pelosi is the Supreme Dictator of the United States, and that any time someone in Our Fair City wants something done, like say, ending the Iraq war tomorrow, she can immediately order the troops back, on her command. That's a nice thought for people who stopped for a red light in college, and never moved on when it turned green, but unfortunately it's not reality.<div><br /></div><div>Progressive Democrats needs to send more "good" Democrats to Washington D.C. so that Our Speaker will have the working majority she needs to put this country back in order. Right now the majority is rather thin, with some Democrats in the majority who don't always vote the way we'd like 'em to. The solution is to get more "good" Democrats elected around the country, so that this won't be a problem.</div><div><br /></div><div>That's why folks need to come out in support of &lt;A HREF="http://www.jackiespeier.com">people like former State Senator Jackie Speier&lt;/A>, who's running to replace the late Rep. Tom Lantos. Despite what some people on the extreme sides of left and right say, Sen. Speier is the kind of person you want in Congress - she's smart, principled, and knows the district (which encompasses San Mateo &amp; San Francisco counties).</div><div><br /></div><div>Plenty of good people have &lt;A HREF="<a href="http://cbslocalblogs.prospero.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?nav=main&amp;webtag=kpix_eyeonblogs&amp;entry=1177">Permalink</a>">written about her&lt;/A> and her achievements, and I've &lt;A HREF="http://www.gregdewar.com/mt/mt-search.cgi?IncludeBlogs=1&amp;search=speier">been a longtime supporter&lt;/A> of her as well.</div><div><br /></div><div>Part of supporting Our Speaker is helping the good Democrats around the state and the country get elected to Congress so we can move faster on an agenda that puts regular folks first, and lets the special interests which prospered under Tom Delay and GW Bush sit on the sidelines for a change. Go Vote!</div>]]></description>

<title>Speaker Pelosi Speaks UP For Democratic Primary Voters!</title>
<description><![CDATA[The whole concept of "superdelegates," a concept introduced exclusively in Democratic Party rules to ensure that party elders, leaders, and electeds don't get shut out of a convention (as they were in 1972), is a strange one. Created to serve as a sort of "firewall" from some sort of threat that was never made very clear, the superdelegates' role has mostly been superfluous - usually one candidate is so far ahead, their role isn't that important. <div><br class="webkit-block-placeholder" /></div><div>Now, however, with Sens. Clinton and Obama running an extremely close race, there's the chance that said unelected delegates may decide who the nominee is. Fortunately for us, there's at least one Democratic leader who's urging the "superdelegates" to hold off until more voters have voted in primaries - Speaker Nancy Pelosi.</div><div><br class="webkit-block-placeholder" /></div><div>You can <a href="http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2008/03/pelosi_and_superdelegates_cont.html">read this article in the Washington Post</a>, which shows once again that Our Speaker is willing to stand up for fairness in our Democratic Primary. Good for her!</div>]]></description>

<title>Another Remarkable Woman Running for Congress in the SF Bay Area: Jackie Speier!</title>
<description><![CDATA[<p>While we're lucky in San Francisco to have Rep. Nancy Pelosi as our Member of Congress and Our Speaker of the House, not all of San Francisco is represented by her district. A good portion of our district was redrawn into Congressman Tom Lantos' district, aka the 12th CD. </p>

<p>Congressman Lantos has made the decision to retire, due to a diagnosis of cancer, and while we'll lose a representative who tirelessly fought the Reagan, Bush I and II administrations, stood up for human rights against dictators around the world, and had excellent constituent service, he's chosen to endorse a remarkable woman in California politics, <A HREF="http://www.jackieforcongress.com/">Jackie Speier</A>, who would be a wonderful addition to the Bay Area progressive team led by Rep. Nancy Pelosi.</p>

<p>Read all about her <A HREF="http://www.calitics.com/showDiary.do;jsessionid=94CD8048288B17B053ED19A92AEEF9A3?diaryId=4803">amazing kickoff event at Leo Ryan Park</A>, and coverage from <A HREF="http://sweetmelissa.typepad.com/sweet_melissa/2008/01/constant-reader.html?cid=97287452#comment-97287452">a fun writeup by Sweet Melissa in San Francisco</A>. <p>The westside of San Francisco and San Mateo County have a chance to send an honest, smart, talented woman to Congress to help Rep. Pelosi fight the good fight in Washington DC. When Democrats have a chance to send solidly progressive, Democratic women to Congress, it will help all of us advance an agenda that takes us past the failures of the Bush Administration, and help any Democratic President advance an agenda that makes America strong again.</p>]]></description>

<title>San Franciscans Support Speaker Nancy Pelosi!</title>
<description><![CDATA[I've decided to start a grassroots effort to show my support, and the support of my fellow San Franciscans for Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is under attack by outsiders who love to use San Francisco as a punching bag for their radical agendas. <div><br class="webkit-block-placeholder" /></div><div>I am getting a bit tired of people attacking the Speaker as if she is some Supreme Dictator of the USA who can rule by decree, like, say, Hugo Chavez, when in fact she's got a thin majority of Democrats to try and fix the disasters in D.C. that President Bush, V.P. Cheney, and the Tom DeLay/GOP wrecking crew have made. She also has to battle people in her own party that seem to think attacking a "San Francisco Democrat" behind the scenes and on the House floor is good for their own selfish political aims. Despite all this, she conducts herself with class and integrity, and I for one am glad she's the speaker and not Denny Hastert.</div><div><br class="webkit-block-placeholder" /></div><div>Over the next few months, this site will grow and include information about Speaker Pelosi's record, as well as the opinions and ideas of real San Franciscans who are willing to stand up and defend &lt;I&gt;our&lt;/I&gt; city and &lt;/I&gt;our&lt;/I&gt; Speaker. We can't let the radical fringes come and use San Francsico for their own agendas - it's time we fought back and showed the rest of the country that attacking Our Speaker is not OK with us anymore!</div>]]></description>
