Speaker Pelosi Speaks UP For Democratic Primary Voters!

| | Comments (0)
The whole concept of "superdelegates," a concept introduced exclusively in Democratic Party rules to ensure that party elders, leaders, and electeds don't get shut out of a convention (as they were in 1972), is a strange one. Created to serve as a sort of "firewall" from some sort of threat that was never made very clear, the superdelegates' role has mostly been superfluous - usually one candidate is so far ahead, their role isn't that important.

Now, however, with Sens. Clinton and Obama running an extremely close race, there's the chance that said unelected delegates may decide who the nominee is. Fortunately for us, there's at least one Democratic leader who's urging the "superdelegates" to hold off until more voters have voted in primaries - Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

You can read this article in the Washington Post, which shows once again that Our Speaker is willing to stand up for fairness in our Democratic Primary. Good for her!
